PIE – Partners in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, is the On-Campus Entrepreneurship Activities Program (OCEA) for Lakehead University and Confederation College. PIE is a collaboration between the University and College and the Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre aimed at promoting youth employment through entrepreneurship.
PIE provides students with:
- Business development support
- Entrepreneurship awareness activities
- Workshops and seminars
- Networking and mentorship opportunities
It can be as simple as coming and talking about an idea or getting some insight into building a business plan. Experience is not required – we want to help you bring your ideas to life.
WHEN: Thursday, January 24, 2019: 2-pm
WHERE: Ingenuity – (In the CASES Building at Lakehead University)
WHAT: Take part in an interactive scavenger hunt to learn what goes into starting a business. Teams of 2 will race around the campus making pit stops to develop different aspects of a business, finishing up at the included sundae bar. The teams with the most well thought out business can win cool tech prizes!

WHEN: February 1-3, 2019
WHERE: Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre (College Campus)
WHAT: Disrupt It weekend will bring together bright, passionate, entrepreneurial-minded individuals to launch an idea in 54 hours. The weekend kicks off with an engaging panel discussion hearing from local entrepreneurs and their stories. After that, individuals can pitch their ideas, and cross functional teams are then formed in order to develop the idea and validate a business model. The weekend concludes with teams presenting their final pitch to a panel of judges and competing for the grand prize!
WHEN: Every Third Tuesday of the month, 5 -7pm
WHERE: The Foundry
WHAT: Third Tuesdays are a place for Thunder Bay technologists to come out and network with their peers. We chat about technology, startups, and happenings in Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario. This is a casual event, open to all tech enthusiasts! Come on out meet other tech enthusiasts, have some apps (on us!) and a drink (on you!).
WHEN: Sessions are every second Wednesday of the month from 7 – 9pm

WHAT: freeCodeCamp Thunder Bay is an informal coding session where you can learn to code for free using the online freeCodeCamp interactive curriculum. Attendees are required to bring their own laptop. The format of the session is an informal study group to work on the freeCodeCamp curriculum or any of your own projects
